People choose a vegetarian diet for different reasons. There are of course health benefits, but some do it for taste, for religion or to stay away from all the hormones used in farm animals. There are different types of vegetarian diets, which vary in the items they exclude. Mainly they are divided into three: Lacto-ovo diet includes both eggs and dairy products, Ovo includes only eggs and Lacto includes only dairy but no eggs. Vegan Diet does include any of them and is the strictest. For recipes here, we follow the Lacto-ovo so most of the recipes identified as vegetarian may include dairy and egg.
A vegetarian diet is beneficial for health and helps reduce heart disease as it might reduce cholesterol and sugar levels. Lacto-ovo diet is also known to have reduced chances of gastrointestinal cancers. It may also help lower blood pressure or even help osteoporosis. When you choose a vegetarian diet you should watch for deficiencies in vitamin B12, D, or Omega fatty acids and if necessary supplement your diet with ingredients that improve those deficiencies.
